"The Two-Way Real Time Data Transfer System"
X-Link
X-Link
is middleware that provides you with the capability
to exchange data between medical software packages and/or
data service providers produced by a variety of manufacturers.
The software packages and/or data service providers
are generally categorized as Practice Management Systems
(billing), Electronic Patient Records Systems (patient
charting), Laboratory Systems, Prescription Systems,
Dictation Systems and other categories.
The
types of data exchanged are usually Patient Demographics,
Insurance Coverage, Billing Transactions, Appointments
and other types of data. The exchange of data occurs
with an extremely wide variety of data formats as defined
by both the source and destination systems and this
data is carried over a variety of interconnects including
network file sharing, TCP-IP, serial and other common
and proprietary connections.
Exchange
of information is generally provided in real time with
only new and changed information actually transferring
over the interconnect, but this method is sometimes
varied by the limitations imposed by either the source
or destination systems.
X-Link
Palm
X-Link
Palm refers to a version of X-Link where data is transferred
to the built-in programs in a Palm OS device. The Palm
OS devices currently supported are the Palm Pilots and
Handspring Visors. X-Link provides this transfer of
data via the USB or serial cradle, or in Palm Desktop
Version 4 as an infrared connection or other wireless
connectivity. X-Link Palm allows batch and real time
transfer of demographics from your Practice Management
System to the Address Book. It also recognizes the change
or addition of demographics in the Palm and transfers
it back to the Practice Management System via real time
transfer. A specially coded graffiti in the Note area
of the Address Book is used to indicate billing data
to be inserted into the Practice Management System via
the real time processor. Finally, the Batch Appointment
function transfers a day's worth of appointments to
the Date Book. Patients are kept in a separate category
in these Palm applications. Normal Palm Desktop Auto
HotSync of the Address Book and Date Book is not affected
by the use of X-Link Palm.
X-Link
Remote Server
X-Link
Remote Server along with of a series of X-Link Ultra
Thin Clients provides a simple user interface that operates
on a variety of devices in a diverse array of environments.
The combination of X-Link Remote Server and X-Link Ultra
Thin Clients provides for real time access to the Practice
Management System for the lookup of patient demographics
and insurance coverage information. Basic patient demographics
can be immediately updated back into the Practice Management
System. Full billing can be entered and immediately
posted to the Practice Management System. Appointments
can be reviewed. Many features and options are being
considered for future product releases.
LAN,
WAN, Internet & VPN Environments
When
the X-Link Ultra Thin Client for Windows is loaded on
a desktop or laptop computer and connected to the X-Link
Remote Server via network cabling forming a Local Area
Network, a Wide Area Network, the Internet, Virtual
Private Network or other TCP-IP Network, the X-Link
Ultra Thin Client will provide access to the Practice
Management System databases. Network speeds as slow
as 9600 baud will provide excellent results.
Wireless
Laptops
When
the X-Link Ultra Thin Client for Windows is loaded on
a laptop computer and connected to the X-Link Remote
Server via Wireless Modem technology through a Wireless
Data Service provider using a TCP-IP protocol, such
as CDPD networks, the X-Link Ultra Thin Client will
provide access to the Practice Management System databases.
CDPD networks for Laptops vary in speed from 19.2k baud
to 28.8k baud and will provide excellent results. AT&T
and Verizon appear to be good candidates as wireless
data service providers. Sprint is now offering a CDMA
technology at 9600 baud that is compatible with the
X-Link Ultra Thin Client; however, since this is not
a true packet data network, access to data may take
up to one minute. Other technologies are currently providing
128k baud in limited areas while some new technologies
are promising 1Mbps to 56Mbps as soon as 2002. Wireless
Modems and Service Activation are available as a bundle
with your X-Link purchase.
Wireless
Palm OS Devices
When
the X-Link Ultra Thin Client for Palm OS is loaded on
a Palm OS compatible device and connected to the X-Link
Remote Server via Wireless Modem technology through
a Wireless Data Service provider using a TCP-IP protocol,
such as CDPD networks, the X-Link Ultra Thin Client
will provide access to the Practice Management System
databases. The X-Link Ultra Thin Client for Palm OS
uses the same wireless technology as the Wireless Laptop
discussed above. Wireless Modems and Service Activation
are available as a bundle with your X-Link purchase.
